IT Architect

Overview

GovCIO is seeking an IT Architect to lead technical strategy and architectural design for software and data systems in support of the VA Health Services Portfolio. This is a 100% remote position with core hours Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm Eastern Time (ET).

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain IT governance frameworks aligned with VA standards
• Lead Architectural Review Boards to approve technical designs
• Audit technical workflows and propose automated enforcement solutions
• Design end-to-end architectural solutions for complex systems
• Translate business requirements into detailed technical specifications
• Communicate complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Bridge the gap between project leadership and technical teams
• Develop data models and software frameworks in line with enterprise standards
• Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to ensure Security by Design
• Evaluate emerging technologies and deliver proof-of-concept demos
• Drive technical roadmaps for modernization and data migration
• Mentor senior developers on architectural best practices
• Oversee integration of disparate data sources and middleware components
• Conduct architectural reviews and approve major system design documents
• Identify and remediate technical debt
• Ensure scalability and performance optimization in cloud-native designs
• Facilitate technical workshops to resolve design conflicts
• Participate in the full SDLC using Agile and DevSecOps methodologies

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience: Bachelor’s degree with 12+ years of experience in software engineering and IT architecture; deep expertise in IT governance frameworks such as COBIT and ITIL; experience with full-stack development, enterprise data architecture, and cloud-native architectures (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud); strong communication skills; and experience working remotely with distributed teams. Ability to obtain/maintain a suitability/public trust clearance is required.

Preferred Skills and Experience: Experience with VA Veteran-Focused Integration Process, familiarity with health data standards (HL7, FHIR, VistA), relevant certifications (CGEIT, AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional, TOGAF), and experience in migrating legacy systems to containerized environments (Kubernetes/Docker).

Interview & Hiring Process

Candidates will have a virtual video interview with the hiring manager/team. Requirements include a live camera, valid photo ID, and enhanced Biometrics ID verification screening. A thorough background check will be conducted.

Compensation

Posted salary range is USD $160,000.00 - USD $170,000.00 per year.
