About The Role: Technical Solutions Engineer, Networking
The Google Cloud Platform team empowers customers to innovate and build their future businesses using cloud technology. Our products are designed for security, reliability, and scalability, spanning the entire stack from infrastructure to applications. As a Technical Solutions Engineer, you will be crucial in understanding customer needs, owning complex issues, and providing L2 support to other teams within a global 24x7 support structure.
You will troubleshoot technical problems for Google Cloud customers, utilizing a blend of debugging, networking expertise, system administration, documentation updates, and coding/scripting. Your efforts will enhance product adoption and usability by driving improvements to products, tools, processes, and documentation. This role is customer-driven, focusing on understanding and advocating for customer issues to contribute to Google Cloud's success.
Responsibilities
- Work as part of a global team ensuring 24-hour customer support, which may include non-standard hours/shifts and weekends as needed.
- Manage customer problems effectively through diagnosis, resolution, or the implementation of new investigation tools for Google Cloud Platform products.
- Act as a consultant and subject matter expert for internal stakeholders in Engineering, Sales, and customer organizations to overcome technical deployment obstacles and enhance Google Cloud.
- Develop an in-depth understanding of Google Cloud networking technologies, including internal implementation details.
- Improve the supportability of Google Cloud networking technologies by collaborating with product engineering teams on launches and by providing customer insights to improve existing products.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of experience reading or debugging code with one of the following: Java, C, C++, .NET, Python, Shell, Perl, or JavaScript.
- Ability to communicate fluently in English for client relationship management in the region.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using techniques such as packet capture/packet analysis, artificial packet creation, load testing, and traffic path analysis to troubleshoot network latency, packet loss, and other performance issues at the packet level.
- Experience with any of these cloud solutions: SQL database administration, Google App Engine, open source software communities, Cloud networking solutions, or distributed computing technology.
- Experience implementing, administering, and troubleshooting network infrastructure devices.
- Knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, Routing, VPNs, VLANs, Peering, Load Balancing, etc.).
- System/network administrator level knowledge of Linux/Unix systems.
- Knowledge of basic web technologies (HTTP, HTML, DNS, TCP, etc.).
