About the Role

As a Technical Program Manager, Google Play Monetization at Google, you will leverage your technical expertise to lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects from inception to completion. You will collaborate with stakeholders to define requirements, identify potential risks, manage project timelines, and communicate effectively with cross-functional partners across the company. This role demands comfort in explaining complex analyses and recommendations to executives, as well as engaging in detailed technical discussions on product development tradeoffs with engineers.

Based in Bengaluru, you will be a pivotal force in driving critical engineering initiatives that fuel Google Play's global commerce engine. This involves steering intricate, multi-disciplinary projects aimed at facilitating seamless business generation for developers and ensuring a secure, personalized experience for billions of users. You will work closely with Engineering and Product Leads to accelerate execution, overseeing portfolio planning and roadmap alignment. A key aspect of your role will be advocating for the adoption of AI-driven tools to enhance operational efficiency and designing scalable governance processes to meet evolving business demands. Utilizing your deep technical understanding, you will navigate complex cross-functional dependencies and represent the team's objectives to executive audiences, ensuring that Google Play’s business generation platforms remain innovative, trusted, and high-performing.

Google Play provides a vast array of content including music, movies, books, apps, and games for various devices, all powered by the cloud and synced across the web. As part of the Android and Mobile team, Googlers working on Google Play are involved in everything from engineering robust backend systems to shaping strategic product direction and fostering key content partnerships. They enable users to effortlessly purchase an ebook or song on their Android phone and have it instantly accessible on their laptop. The Google Play team is instrumental in enriching the Android ecosystem by offering developers and partners a premium platform to connect with millions of users.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate projects spanning multiple offices, product areas, and time zones, ensuring all teams are aligned on progress and deadlines.
  • Architect scalable processes and implement governance frameworks to reduce organizational complexity and enhance global communication.
  • Partner with Engineering and Product Leads to accelerate organizational execution and drive high-priority initiatives.
  • Manage the organization’s portfolio planning and prioritization, including roadmap, Objectives and Key Results (OKR) planning, milestones, and software schedules, in collaboration with product and engineering teams.
  • Advocate for the use of AI best practices and tools to automate workflows, minimize manual effort, and improve overall program efficiency.
  • Drive alignment across various teams, organizations, and Product Areas (PAs) to achieve consensus on product direction, key business metrics, and technical feasibility.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in program management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience navigating large-scale, fast-paced engineering organizations with intricate dependencies and cross-site partners.
  • Expertise in program management fundamentals, with a focus on predictive risk management, resource estimation, and global stakeholder steering.
  • Proficiency in leveraging AI tools and frameworks to automate workflows, enhance data-driven decision-making, and accelerate program execution.
  • Track record of managing portfolio planning and roadmap prioritization, ensuring alignment between engineering, product, and executive north star metrics.
  • Ability to apply technical judgment to navigate engineering scope, assess feasibility, and manage dependencies across a global stack.
