Job Description

About the Technical Program Manager, Environmental Compliance Role at Google

A problem isn’t truly solved until it’s solved for all. That’s why Googlers build products that help create opportunities for everyone, whether down the street or across the globe. As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you’ll use your technical expertise to lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects from start to finish. You’ll work with stakeholders to plan requirements, identify risks, manage project schedules, and communicate clearly with cross-functional partners across the company. You're equally comfortable explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical tradeoffs in product development with engineers.

Google Data Centers (GDC) makes up one of the largest and most powerful computing infrastructures on the planet. As GDC is planning for the next wave of data center growth, it has built an exceptional Environmental, and Health and Safety (EHS) program to scale compliance and safety excellence in design, construction, commissioning, deployment and operations of data centers.

As a member of the team, you will be responsible for supporting new site acquisition and construction growth for the environmental program from initial due diligence to time critical environmental permitting completion. You will play a critical part in ensuring all environmental issues are identified and addressed by working collaboratively with a cross functional team of GDC departments and contractors to protect Google’s interests. This role will also be responsible for creating accurate and coordinated timelines that support the stakeholder GDC teams in meeting scheduled timelines while ensuring compliance with established EHS standards and local regulations. You will also provide program leadership and oversight to new and critical EHS initiatives.

Google Cloud accelerates every organization’s ability to digitally transform its business and industry. We deliver enterprise-grade solutions that leverage Google’s technology, and tools that help developers build more sustainably. Customers in more than 200 countries and territories turn to Google Cloud as their trusted partner to enable growth and solve their most critical business problems.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and evaluate environmental risks for impact to the business, starting from due diligence through campus planning and design phases. Analyze risk scenarios to determine their potential impact to the business and lead programs to mitigate those risks.
  • Review due diligence assessments to ensure alignment with GDC strategy and schedule, including analyzing environmental business risks and identifying efficiencies with a focus on soil and groundwater remediation, water and wastewater usage, air emissions compliance, and environmental risk assessment.
  • Lead environmental permitting, investigations, and assessments to support compliance with local and national regulations.
  • Contribute to regional/global tracking of milestones and deliverables for environmental and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage portfolio of EHS initiatives and programs and manage contractors and internal stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 1 year of experience in program management.
  • Experience with environmental compliance and permitting processes in the United States.
  • Experience managing environmental projects (soil and groundwater remediation, air emissions, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience communicating with state, regional, and national authorities regarding environmental issues.
  • Knowledge of data center operations, facilities management, engineering and construction.
  • Ability to be an influential member of an integrated team composed of both technical and non-technical members.
  • Ability to take environmental research or field data and summarize it into clear, actionable insights using tools like Sheets or Spreadsheet Software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
