Job Description
About the Role: System Development Engineer
As a System Development Engineer at Google, you will play a crucial role in building the software foundation that powers and manages advanced hybrid and on-prem AI infrastructure. This position involves working on a vertically integrated system, contributing to every layer of the stack. Your responsibilities will include developing services in Go/Python to automate the entire life cycle of hardware testbeds, from initial provisioning to ongoing fleet management. You will also build automation for OS installation and software deployment using custom installers like Subiquity, and tackle unique engineering challenges associated with managing both Google-networked and fully air-gapped hardware environments. Furthermore, you will design and manage databases, such as CloudSQL, that serve as the source of truth for the state and health of thousands of machines.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or IT-related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3 years of experience with systems automation, and with systems design and implementation.
- 3 years of experience with technical infrastructure (e.g., deployment, maintenance, troubleshooting).
Preferred Qualifications
- 3 years of experience working with vendors or customers.

Responsibilities
- Contribute significantly to the goal for the hybrid and on-prem infrastructure business by assisting in defining and delivering architecture and roadmap initiatives.
- Collaborate with product and go-to-market leaders to implement strategies for our migrate, modernize, and workload efforts.
- Work with peer engineers and managers within Google teams and external partners to influence product and team direction.
- Partner with internal cross-functional organizations and external vendors and partners.
