Staff Privacy Engineer, Google Ads

About the Role

As a Staff Privacy Engineer, Google Ads, you will be an architect of trust. You will build privacy into products from the ground up, defining technical privacy strategy for entire product areas and ensuring scalable, efficient, and compliant systems.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 7 years in a privacy related field.
• 7 years translating product roadmaps and regulatory requirements into engineering strategies.
• 2 years selecting and configuring privacy technologies or frameworks.
• 2 years leading company-wide technical projects with executive interaction.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Privacy, or related fields.
• Knowledge of privacy-enhancing technologies and data governance frameworks.
• Familiarity with AI/ML and anticipating future privacy challenges.

Responsibilities

• Partner with product management and engineering to align privacy initiatives with long-term roadmaps.
• Lead privacy design for complex systems, advocating privacy-by-design principles.
• Bridge between legal, product, and engineering to translate regulations into clear strategies.
• Design privacy systems balancing performance, feasibility, and scalability.
• Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of privacy awareness.

Additional Information

Google Ads powers the open internet by connecting people, publishers, advertisers, and businesses. Compensation details include a US base salary range of $197,000-$291,000, plus bonus, equity, and benefits. The position is based in Mountain View, CA or New York, NY, USA.
