As a Software Engineer II, Growth Features, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.
In this role, you will be the engine driving user engagement for the Search Verticals Infrastructure organization. You will sit at the intersection of product innovation and infrastructure, building and scaling high-impact growth levers like Notifications, Share, and Follow. You will use your growth expertise to focus on Search Verticals Infrastructure’s big bets—such as Finance Hub and Agentic Search—directly contributing to the evolving Search stack.

Responsibilities
- Write product or system development code and review code developed by other developers to provide feedback on best practices, including style guidelines, accuracy, testability, and efficiency.
- Triage product or system issues and debug, track, and resolve them by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
- Design, develop, and maintain full-stack features for key growth surfaces while launching and analyzing Alpha/Beta experiments to validate growth hypotheses and scale winning strategies across Search Verticals Infrastructure verticals.
- Support the evolution of GrowBot by contributing to the artificial intelligence (AI) automation of growth lever identification, development, experimentation, and deployment to help SVI scale more efficiently.
- Execute primary development in Java and TypeScript while developing within infrastructure such as Superroot, Google Web Search, Search Next, and more.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 1 year of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
- 1 year of experience with data structures and algorithms.
- 1 year of experience with full stack development, across back-end such as Java, Python, GO, or C++ codebases, and front-end experience including JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML, CSS or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- Experience in data-driven product development, including A/B testing and iterating based on user engagement metrics.
- Experience working closely with product managers and user experience designers to solve user problems in the SVI space, such as finance and sports.
- Experience with full-stack development and an interest in building features for highly visible user surfaces.
- Familiarity with distributed systems or the Google Search Infrastructure stack.
