Senior UX Researcher at Google Pay
Google Pay is one of the top UPI products in India, instrumental in transforming the fin-tech landscape and everyday digital payments experience for millions. The Consumer Payments team operates in a fluid fin-tech ecosystem, exploring new experiences and interactions with digital payments and money.
This opportunity is for a UX/Product Experience Researcher passionate about building digital payment experiences for India. As a Senior UX Researcher on the Google Pay India Consumer team, you will operate with ownership and accountability to lead a part of the research charter, informing and shaping AI-focused feature experiences. You will translate context understanding into experiences, directly shaping new, AI-powered product features that extend the value of digital payments for GPay users. This role is instrumental in driving human-centered strategy across the product lifecycle, conducting applied research focused on creating impactful product experiences, and working on agile, AI-focused exploratory features to shape applications with AI technology in the payment space. The Payments team at Google makes payments simple, seamless, and secure, whether paying online with Autofill, using tap and pay in stores, or utilizing the Google Pay app, and also powers money movement between Google, its consumers, and businesses.
Responsibilities
- Own and drive research roadmaps with multi-phase projects.
- Design and conduct foundational, generative, and evaluative research to define new opportunities and influence strategy across the product cycle.
- Lead research activities in a fluid environment using mixed methods to inspire and partner with cross-functional teams, co-defining product direction and navigating the ambiguity of early-stage product development (0-1), while fostering a collaborative culture to maintain momentum.
- Apply a mixed-methods approach by selecting and utilizing ethnographic field studies, diary studies, contextual inquiries, and usability testing, demonstrating a strong understanding of these methods.
- Synthesize insights and recommendations through narratives, design principles, and frameworks, communicating them to audiences to influence design and product decisions and bringing a human-centered point-of-view to the team.
- Uphold ethical and responsible innovation.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 6 years of experience in an applied research setting (e.g., product) or similar.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or PhD in Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Statistics, Psychology, Anthropology, or a related field.
- Experience with research design applying qualitative research methods including usability, surveys, contextual inquiry, research through design, and an understanding of different methods along with the ability to discern and adapt based on product phases.
- Experience working in a 0-1 setting, launching new products from the ground up and managing challenges through research.
- Experience in the generative AI space to shape product opportunities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work collaboratively, engaging with cross-functional teams.
