Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of complex features within Firestore’s core query engine and distributed storage layers.
- Refine open-ended technical problems into tractable projects, generating innovative solutions for scaling and reliability.
- Maintain high standards for code quality and system reliability through design reviews and performance benchmarking.
- Identify and implement enhancements to local engineering processes such as CI/CD pipelines and on-call health to drive team velocity.
- Take end-to-end responsibility for major technical components, ensuring seamless integration with GCP services like Vertex AI and BigQuery.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of experience coding in one or more of the following languages: C, C++, Java, or Python.
- 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
- 3 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master’s degree or PhD, with a focus on distributed systems or database internals.
- Experience building and scaling high-availability, serverless managed cloud services
- Proficiency in performance-critical Java and low-level resource management.
- Knowledge of NoSQL internals, document stores, or large-scale distributed storage systems (e.g., Firestore, MongoDB, Spanner).
- Knowledge of distributed systems theory, including consensus protocols and consistency models.
