About the Role: Security Engineer, Detection at Google
At Google, the Security team is dedicated to fostering the safest operating environment for users and developers. As a Security Engineer, Detection, you will play a crucial role in actively monitoring systems for attacks and intrusions, working collaboratively with software engineers to proactively identify and mitigate security flaws and vulnerabilities. This position involves developing advanced and novel detection mechanisms, automating remediation processes, conducting threat hunting, and performing comprehensive network and systems forensics, as well as malware and indicator analysis.
This role is part of the Core team, which builds the fundamental technical infrastructure for Google’s flagship products. The Core team champions underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure, serving as essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent user experiences. This team drives innovation, develops central solutions across Google's products, breaks down technical barriers, and strengthens existing systems, offering a unique opportunity to influence critical technical decisions company-wide.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 2 years of experience with security assessments, security design reviews, or threat modeling.
- 2 years of experience with security engineering, computer and network security, and security protocols.
- 2 years of coding experience in one or more general-purpose languages.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with malware analysis, including investigations of botnet and root-kit behavior.
- Experience leading the analysis of datasets and intrusion detection systems.
Responsibilities
- Identify security issues and implement and design security controls, tools, and services to improve security systems and processes.
- Participate in a global operation that monitors and responds to security events on Google networks.
- Perform investigations on a wide variety of events from various sources to determine whether they pose a threat.
- Participate in security incidents.
- Work with teams from around Google to discover new detection capabilities and logging sources.
