About the Role: Research Scientist, GenAI, Experiences

At Google, our portfolio of research projects is diverse, encompassing fundamental research, new product innovation, product contribution, and infrastructure goals. We empower individuals and teams with the freedom to focus on specific work types. As a Research Scientist, GenAI, Experiences, you will be instrumental in setting up large-scale tests and swiftly deploying promising ideas. You'll manage deadlines and deliverables while applying cutting-edge theories to develop new and enhanced products, processes, or technologies. Our research scientists tackle real-world challenges across the entire spectrum of computer science, including machine learning, deep learning, data mining, natural language processing, hardware and software performance analysis, compiler improvements for mobile platforms, and core search functionalities.

You are expected to actively contribute to the broader research community by sharing and publishing your discoveries. Your ideas will stem from internal projects and collaborations with research programs at partner universities and technical institutes globally.

Google Research is dedicated to building the next generation of intelligent systems for all Google products. This involves working on projects that leverage the latest computer science techniques developed by highly skilled software developers and research scientists. Google Research teams maintain close collaboration with other teams across Google, ensuring the flexibility and adaptability needed to embrace new projects and foci that meet the demands of a fast-paced business environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with one or more of the following: computer vision, machine learning, natural language processing.
  • Experience with software development in Python.
  • One or more scientific publication submissions for conferences, journals, or public repositories (such as CVPR, ICCV, NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years of experience in coding.
  • 1 year of experience owning and initiating research agendas.
  • Experience with Jax/PyTorch, Python, and building/launching ML models and applied ML skills (e.g., Large Language Models (LLMs), Natural Language Processing (NLP)).
  • Experience with quantitative research or investigative abilities for data analysis.
  • Experience with Google infrastructure such as Flume.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and evaluate advanced ML models utilizing large-scale datasets to analyze and predict human preferences and behavior.
  • Architect and maintain systems for model training and high-performance serving.
  • Perform statistical analyses on large-scale data to uncover patterns and derive actionable insights for product development.
  • Publish original research in venues, contributing novel methodologies to the fields of machine learning and natural language processing.
  • Collaborate effectively with partners to integrate ML models driving measurable improvements in quality and user experience.
