Engineering Analyst, Safe Browsing, Applied AI at Google
The Trust & Safety team at Google is dedicated to identifying and solving critical problems challenging the safety and integrity of Google's products. This involves leveraging technical expertise, strong problem-solving abilities, user insights, and proactive communication to safeguard users and partners from abuse across various Google platforms such as Search, Maps, Gmail, and Google Ads. This role requires a big-picture thinker and strategic team player who is passionate about doing what's right, working globally and cross-functionally with Google engineers and product managers to combat abuse and fraud with urgency. The core mission is to promote trust in Google and ensure the highest levels of user safety.
As part of the Trust & Safety - Safe Browsing team, this position is crucial for making the world’s information safely accessible. You will collaborate with Safe Browsing Engineering to protect internet users globally from phishing, malware, and scams. Your support will extend to Safe Browsing systems that provide defenses against these threats for key Google products like Gmail, Chrome, Search, and Ads.
You will collaborate with anti-abuse teams across the company to identify and resolve the biggest challenges to product safety and integrity. Google’s Trust & Safety team comprises experts focused on making the internet safer, partnering across Google to deliver bold solutions in areas such as malware, spam, and account hijacking. Composed of Analysts, Policy Specialists, Engineers, and Program Managers, the team works to reduce risk and fight abuse across all Google products, protecting users, advertisers, and publishers worldwide in over 40 languages.
Responsibilities
- Create and evaluate AI Agents designed to classify web pages for Safe Browsing and reduce operational costs.
- Perform comprehensive data analyses to identify harmful entities, design and implement key performance metrics, examine trends, and pinpoint system vulnerabilities.
- Analyze potentially malicious websites to understand their behavior and impact on users, utilizing technologies like Large Language Models (LLMs) to scale the fight against abuse and phishing.
- Collaborate closely with engineering and product teams to develop and enhance tools, create new signals, and improve system functionality, accuracy, and efficiency.
- Review and manage exposure to sensitive or violative content as a core part of the role.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 2 years of experience in data analysis, including identifying trends, generating summary statistics, and drawing insights from quantitative and qualitative data.
- Experience with SQL, Python, or other programming/scripting languages for dataset manipulation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, etc.).
- Experience with building AI Agentic workflows or utilizing different Agentic architectures.
- Experience in abuse and fraud disciplines, particularly focused on web security, harmful content moderation, and threat analysis.
- Knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Statistical analysis and Machine Learning libraries (e.g., R, TensorFlow), Programming languages (e.g., Python), Large Language Models (LLMs), or Generative AI.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and effectively.
- Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills with meticulous attention to detail in a dynamic environment.

In accordance with Washington state law, Google offers a comprehensive benefits package available to all eligible US-based employees. Benefits for this role include health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance; retirement benefits such as a 401(k) with company match; generous paid time off including 20 days of vacation per year (accruing at 6.15 hours per pay period for the first five years), 40 hours/year sick time (statutory where applicable), and 5 days/event discretionary sick time; maternity leave (Short-Term Disability + Baby Bonding) for 28-30 weeks; baby bonding leave for 18 weeks; and 13 paid holidays per year.
Compensation
The US base salary range for this full-time Engineering Analyst, Safe Browsing, Applied AI position is $126,000-$181,000. This is complemented by a bonus, equity, and a comprehensive benefits package. Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Individual pay within this range is influenced by work location and additional factors such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
