Part community manager and part developer advocate, Developer Relations Engineers collaborate with developers at conferences and online, and advocate for developers interests internally at Google. Not afraid to be directed, you write sample code and client libraries as well as participate in developer forums and support queues to troubleshoot and debug coding problems developers encounter. Internally, you work with product engineering teams to improve our products by conveying feedback from developers, reviewing API designs and testing new features. Chrome, Android, App Engine, HTML5 as well as our core Google Workspace and Ads APIs are just some of the platforms you promote and support.Drawing on your leadership and technical expertise, you drive how applications work across multiple platforms and industries as you grow our community of developers. You magnify the impact of Google's technology as you helps 3rd parties to work together.Our mission is to accelerate Google’s velocity by empowering developers with AI-ready knowledge, trusted content, and scaled and targeted enablement programs.In this role, you will radically increase velocity at Google by leading a team of Developer Relations Engineers, focused on increasing velocity of Google engineers. You will lead a crucial part of Developer Insight and Enablement’s efforts by helping to identify emerging trends in Google’s SDLC, co-creating solutions to drive an agentic future, working to reduce friction in our internal stacks, and helping internal teams take advantage of data and insights.The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.Responsibilities
- Manage a team of Developer Relations Engineers, providing coaching, mentorship, and career development. Foster a collaborative, and high-performing team culture.
- Partner with other leads to develop targeted, fast moving, enablement strategies, while supporting longer-term efforts in Scaled Knowledge Management.
- Act as a key point of contact and influence product roadmaps based on developer feedback and insights. Drive scaled efforts to prioritize and deliver friction logs and feedback from product teams.
- Ensure your team effectively represents the needs of Google's internal developers. Oversee the collection, synthesis, and communication of developer feedback to product teams.
- Work with engineers across Google, work across the software development life cycle (SDLC) to build, test and deploy applications, and help provide detailed technical feedback and guidance to engineering teams.
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 7 years of work experience in a technical role (e.g., software engineering, solutions consultant, etc.) or equivalent technical experience.
- 5 years of experience with direct people management in a technical team/organization.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience working in a Developer Relations or Developer Advocacy role.
- Understanding of software development life-cycles and best practices.
- Ability to influence and collaborate effectively across various teams and levels.
- Excellent communication, people management, and presentation skills.
- Passionate for improving developer experience and productivity.
Compensation
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $192,000-$278,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits. - Maternity Leave (Short-Term Disability + Baby Bonding): 28-30 weeks
- Baby Bonding Leave: 18 weeks
- Holidays: 13 paid days per year
