About the Role
The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and HVAC systems in the world. As a Data Center Facilities Technician, Controls at Google, you will operate, monitor, and support physical facilities conditions. This includes heating and cooling of air and water, power supply, generators, UPS systems, electrical distribution, and control and monitoring systems. You will regularly help inspect, maintain, and repair various data center systems such as piping and non-critical electrical or mechanical system components. You will provide daily assistance to senior technicians as you read blueprints/schematics, conduct tours of systems, and assess their working order.
As a master of exceptional practices, you will develop creative approaches to reducing operational costs while improving overall data center efficiency. You will ensure that environmental and safety standards are consistently met, identifying problems and making repairs quickly. In emergency situations or abnormal conditions, you will manage data center performance issues and outages to minimize the recovery time from failures.
In this role, you will train alongside experienced technicians to inspect, maintain, and repair various data center systems, including piping and non-critical electrical or mechanical components. You will master Google’s proprietary systems and tools to build a technical foundation. You will grow your mission-critical skills and maintenance skills to develop journey-level experience and knowledge.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate's degree, trade school certification, or related training program certification in a relevant technical field (e.g., CMCO, SMT, etc.).
- Experience in electrical distribution systems (e.g., HV, LV, protection and controls, power quality).
- Must be able to perform material handling (lifting/shifting) and work on platforms, ladders, and under raised floors.
- Ability to work non-standard hours.
Preferred Qualifications
- Full driving license (EU valid).
- Experience planning and executing installation, commissioning, and equipment startup following industry best practices and protocols.
- Experience working in the control room for critical operations.
- Understanding of electrical and mechanical systems in data center environments and controls/monitoring systems.
- Ability to prioritize work efficiently with excellent written and verbal communication and people-management skills.

Responsibilities
- Monitor multiple information streams in the control room and make accurate mission-critical decisions.
- Be responsible for the up-time, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Electrical Distribution systems and Power Monitoring.
- Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in the data center facilities systems and equipment.
- Support startup, commissioning, and integration of new equipment and systems into facilities infrastructure.
- Support standards and produce templates for monitoring power quality, diagnostic, preventive maintenance, and trend logs for data center critical facilities power distribution systems.
