Data Center Electrical Engineer
Google is seeking a talented Data Center Electrical Engineer to join our cutting-edge Data Center Engineering team. You will be a visionary, driving improvements and implementing innovative strategies within our physical infrastructure.
About The Job
Our Data Center Engineering team is at the forefront of technological advancement, continuously developing and testing new strategies for our data centers. As a Data Center Electrical Engineer, you will tackle complex challenges related to power management and the operation of state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly facilities. Your role involves optimizing efficiencies, identifying even small impactful improvements, generating ideas, and communicating recommendations to senior leadership. You will also drive implementation with facilities technicians, ensuring compliance with codes and standards, developing infrastructure improvements, and serving as an expert in electrical systems.
Role Responsibilities
- Play a key part in the design, implementation, and management of electrical systems for Google's advanced data centers.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and the Engineer of Record (EOR) to uphold the highest standards of safety, reliability, and efficiency.
- Provide expert technical support to data center services and operations teams, defining electrical system design requirements from inception to completion.
- Develop, implement, and manage electrical designs at the site level, from the basis of design through to construction documents for new builds, upgrades, and renovations.
- Work with the core engineering team to define site-specific requirements and coordinate system-level schematics with the EOR.
- Manage site-level power system issues during project execution, collaborating with teams to resolve challenges.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of experience in data center or mission-critical facility design/construction environments.
- 5 years of experience with data center or mission-critical facilities and their electrical infrastructure.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Engineering, Business, or related fields.
- Professional engineering license.
- Experience in bidding, designing, operating, and commissioning electrical distribution systems (HV substation to final circuits).
- Expertise in electrical systems analysis.
