Cloud Technical Solutions Engineer, Networking at Google
The Google Cloud team empowers companies, schools, and government entities to seamlessly transition to Google products and provides ongoing support. In this role, you will attentively listen to customer needs and swiftly resolve technical issues, demonstrating how Google Cloud products enhance business productivity, collaboration, and innovation. You will collaborate closely with a diverse cross-functional team of web developers and systems administrators, engaging with both regional and international customers. Building strong relationships with customers is pivotal to Google's Cloud business growth and its mission to help companies globally innovate.
As a Cloud Technical Solutions Engineer, Networking, you will be an integral part of a global team dedicated to supporting customers migrating to Google Cloud. Your responsibilities will include troubleshooting complex technical issues for customers through debugging, networking expertise, system administration, documentation updates, and coding/scripting. You will actively contribute to making Google Cloud products easier to adopt and use by suggesting and implementing improvements to products, tools, processes, and documentation. Furthermore, you will advocate for customer issues, thereby driving the business growth of Google Cloud.
Responsibilities
- Manage customer issues from diagnosis and resolution to implementing new investigation tools, increasing productivity for Google Cloud Platform product support.
- Develop deep knowledge of Google's product technology and underlying architectures by troubleshooting, reproducing, identifying root causes for customer issues, and building diagnostic tools.
- Act as a consultant and subject matter expert for internal stakeholders across engineering, business, and customer organizations to resolve technical deployment issues and enhance Google Cloud.
- Understand customer challenges and advocate for their needs with cross-functional teams, including Product and Engineering, to improve the product and drive production.
- Work as part of a global team of engineers or consultants committed to ensuring excellent customer support, including working non-standard hours/shifts as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 9 years of experience with debugging codes in Java, C, C++, .NET, Python, Shell, Perl, or JavaScript.
- 4 years of experience in networking technologies, including Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), Routing, Virtual Private Network (VPN), Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN), Peering, Load-Balancing, Firewall, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP), Network Address Translation (NAT), Content Delivery Network (CDN), and Domain Name System (DNS).
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE), Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE).
- Experience using techniques like packet-capture/packet-analysis, load testing, and traffic-path analysis to troubleshoot network latency, packet loss, and performance issues.
- Experience implementing, administering, and troubleshooting network infrastructure devices.
- Experience with open-source software communities, cloud networking solutions, distributed-computing technology, or hybrid/multi-cloud connectivity.
- Knowledge of virtual/container networking, web technologies, HTTP/HTTPS, and network administrator level Linux/Unix or other Operating Systems (OS).
