About The Role of Associate Corporate Counsel, Marketing at Google
The Central Marketing Legal team at Google is at the forefront of the company's most creative endeavors, providing essential legal support for all Marketing Product Areas. This includes critical areas like Android, Play, Gemini, Ads, Media Lab, Growth Lab, Sports Lab, and many more. As an Associate Corporate Counsel, Marketing, you will play a pivotal role in shaping Google's marketing initiatives from inception through launch.
This full-time position offers a competitive US base salary range of $210,000-$312,000, complemented by bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits. Compensation is determined by factors such as role, level, location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert legal advice and guidance to Marketing teams, supporting them from the initial stages of product and project development all the way to launch.
- Address legal requests promptly from Marketing, Business Development, and other internal clients, translating complex legal concepts into actionable, business-friendly insights.
- Counsel business clients, as well as colleagues in HR, Finance, and other departments, on a broad spectrum of legal issues, potential risks, intricate agreement structures, internal approval processes, company policies, IP strategy, and overall business strategy.
- Actively contribute to the continuous improvement of standard form agreements and legal operational processes within the organization.
- Regularly review, draft, and manage various legal documents, including licenses, intellectual property agreements, and advertising services agreements.
- Ensure all agreements are meticulously managed to comply with Google's company policies and risk tolerance.
Minimum Qualifications
- A JD, LL.B., or equivalent degree, or demonstrable equivalent practical experience.
- Admission to the bar and good standing, or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., registered in-house status) in the state where the position is located.
- At least 3 years of relevant attorney-level experience specifically with media and entertainment commercial marketing agreements. This experience should be gained in a media, marketing, or advertising company or a law firm, with a strong emphasis on areas such as truth in advertising, SAG-AFTRA, adtech, media buy, consumer protection, social media regulation, or FTC compliance.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5 years of relevant experience with media and entertainment commercial marketing agreements, gained in a media, marketing, or advertising company or law firm.
- Proven experience advising clients on structuring complex commercial transactions, including agreements related to new media content and advertising.
- Expertise in drafting various agreements, including licenses, intellectual property agreements, advertising services agreements, and sales agreements.
- A deep understanding of media and content license language and rights, copyright law, fair use principles, trademark law, and personality rights within the US.
- Comprehensive knowledge of advertising law, including FTC regulations concerning claims substantiation and disclosure.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills, particularly in the context of contract interpretation.
