Job Description
About The Team
The GeminiApp UX team at Google DeepMind is at the frontier of human-AI interaction. We are defining how users experience, converse with, and collaborate with the world’s most capable AI models. We don't just design interfaces; we create dynamic, living systems that feel responsive, intelligent, and distinctly Gemini.
The Role
As an L6 Motion Design Specialist, you will operate horizontally as a lead motion designer across the entire GeminiApp UX ecosystem. You are a visionary—highly artistic, profoundly creative, and capable of conceptualizing far-reaching ideas that define the future of our product.
You will not just be animating UI elements; you will be inventing the future of how AI feels. You will think broadly about motion systems, transforming abstract concepts into entirely new visual languages that bring user experiences to life. You will act as a bridge between wild, unconstrained creativity and rigorous, working systems, partnering deeply with engineering to ensure your vision is executed flawlessly.
We are looking for an expert in motion tools who is endlessly curious about the future of design technology. If you are excited by new paradigms like "vibe coding”—using AI to rapidly prototype and manifest ideas through natural language—and want to push the boundaries of how motion is integrated into software, this role is for you.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Horizontally: Serve as the central motion design authority across the GeminiApp UX team, driving a cohesive and innovative motion language across multiple product surfaces.
- Invent the Future: Conceptualize and execute highly artistic, boundary-pushing motion concepts that define new paradigms for interacting with AI.
- Build Motion Systems: Translate far-reaching creative ideas into scalable, working motion systems and entirely new visual languages that other designers and engineers can leverage.
- Champion New Workflows: Actively experiment with and integrate emerging workflows, including AI-assisted prototyping, to rapidly bring ideas to life.
- Collaborate Deeply: Partner closely with cross-functional (XFN) teams, serving as a critical bridge to Engineering. Guide the technical implementation of motion to ensure high-fidelity, performant execution in the final product.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Design, Animation, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Extensive experience as a motion designer, with a strong portfolio showcasing a high degree of artistic creativity, systemic thinking, and expertise in interactive motion.
- Expert-level proficiency in industry-standard motion and prototyping tools (e.g., After Effects, Cinema 4D, Rive, Lottie, Propie, etc.).
- Proven track record of successful cross-functional collaboration, specifically with software engineering teams to implement complex motion into production environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to operate in a lead capacity, influencing horizontal design systems and driving visual direction across multiple teams.
- Strong interest or hands-on experience with AI-driven design tools, creative coding, or rapid prototyping through "vibe coding."
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to articulate abstract motion concepts and systemic design principles to both creative and technical stakeholders.
