Project Janus at Google DeepMind
Project Janus is a new product development within the Gemini App team. This initiative leverages the world-leading Gemini model to deliver intelligent automation across web browsers, computers, and beyond. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and performance of this transformative AI product.

Responsibilities
- Develop from scratch the next generation of AI technologies that empower Google users.
- Work on Janus modeling and quality, including setting up evaluation sets and infrastructure, agentic orchestration flows, prompt iteration, context engineering, autoraters, and training data collection.
- Work with the One Recipe team on iterating on new versions of the Gemini model through SFT and RL techniques.
- Read and research industrial ideas in this area and apply them to our real use cases.
- Participate in code reviews, enforce development best practices, and share your knowledge to raise the team's overall technical expertise.
- Work in a small team environment to rapidly develop a new product.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
- 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
- Experience building or using AI Agents and LLM-based frameworks to automate software engineering tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- 5 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
- 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.
- Experience developing accessible technologies.
Compensation and Benefits
The US base salary range for this full-time Machine Learning Quality Engineer position is $174,000-$255,000, complemented by bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits. Individual pay is determined by factors such as work location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
