Job Description

About the Role

At Goldman Sachs, Engineers are instrumental in making the impossible possible. Join our dynamic engineering teams to build scalable software and systems, architect low-latency infrastructure, ensure cybersecurity, and leverage machine learning and financial engineering to transform data into action. We are seeking creative collaborators who thrive in a fast-paced global environment to push the boundaries of digital possibilities.

Transaction Banking (TxB)

Transaction Banking (TxB) is dedicated to innovating traditional banking and lending activities. Our global team comprises lenders, investors, risk managers, marketers, web experts, and banking specialists who provide comprehensive solutions to help clients achieve their financial objectives. We invest directly in and manage risk for corporate loans and securities, and contribute to community transformation through private capital investments and loans.

Who We Look For

As a Payments Business Analyst, you will be a strategic leader at the intersection of product, technology, and business operations. You will define and drive the functional vision for complex payment solutions, acting as a subject matter expert and a crucial link between senior business stakeholders and the engineering organization. Your role involves translating high-level strategic objectives into an actionable backlog of epics and user stories to guide the development of robust, scalable, and compliant payment systems.

Success in this role requires expert-level knowledge of the global payments ecosystem, including various payment rail schemes (Fedwire, FedACH, CHAPS, SEPA, RTP, CHIPS) and payment models (batch, RTGS, real-time). You will analyze existing processes and proactively identify opportunities for innovation, automation, and competitive differentiation.

How You Will Fulfill Your Potential

  • Lead requirement elicitation, analysis, and documentation for large-scale payment initiatives.
  • Translate business needs into clear epics and user stories aligned with the product roadmap.
  • Drive cross-functional teams, including senior leaders, to achieve consensus on solution designs.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on payment systems, industry trends, and regulations.
  • Mentor junior business analysts and foster best practices in Agile methodologies.
  • Define and oversee User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for major product releases.
  • Own the project lifecycle from analysis of existing workflows to implementation and adoption, optimizing for straight-through processing (STP) and reducing operational risk.

Basic Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional experience as a business analyst, focused on payments, fintech, or corporate banking.
  • Extensive experience in requirements definition and creating epics/user stories for large-scale payment platforms.
  • Expert-level knowledge of FedACH, RTGS (e.g., Fedwire, CHAPS), ACH/Low-Value (e.g., SEPA), and Real-Time Payments (e.g., RTP, FedNow).
  • Proven track record of leading complex, cross-functional payment initiatives in an Agile environment (Scrum/Kanban).
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring junior team members and leading project workstreams.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and influencing skills with executive-level stakeholders.
  • Highly analytical and strategic mindset with a high degree of autonomy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep expertise in optimizing payment operational workflows (reconciliation, exception handling, investigations).
  • Experience leading vendor selection, integrations, and managing technology partner relationships (e.g., Volante, Finastra, ACI Worldwide, Fircosoft).
  • In-depth knowledge of global regulatory landscapes (e.g., PSD2/PSD3, Open Banking, ISO 20022, AML/sanctions screening).
  • Proven experience defining solutions for compliance, audit, or SOX controls in financial institutions.
  • Strong background in corporate cash management, treasury services, or correspondent banking.
  • Experience presenting business cases and strategic recommendations to executive leadership.
