Our division prevents, detects, and mitigates compliance, regulatory, and reputational risk across the firm. We operate as an independent control function, assessing risk, monitoring compliance, designing controls, and investigating potential breaches. You'll join a diverse team with varied backgrounds and a need for sound judgment and adaptability in a changing regulatory environment.
Your Impact
The Business Intelligence Group (BIG) within Financial Crime Compliance (FCC) for EMEA is seeking a skilled individual to support transaction reviews across various EMEA jurisdictions. This research-focused role involves due diligence on transactions and business relationships to identify and evaluate legal, regulatory, and reputational risks. BIG supports business lines like investment banking and asset management, collaborating with internal and external legal and compliance experts. This is an in-office position in Goldman Sachs' Birmingham office, supporting the EMEA BIG team based in London, with future growth planned for Birmingham.
Responsibilities
- Conduct in-house public records research on companies and counterparties using online resources, databases, and public filings.
- Instruct and liaise with external investigative consultants, evaluating and challenging their reports.
- Support due diligence to identify and assess legal, regulatory, and reputational risks in various transactions and business relationships.
- Drive the due diligence process, coordinating with in-house lawyers, external counsel, compliance, and business teams to address identified issues.
- Considerations include anti-bribery, anti-money laundering, economic sanctions compliance, environmental and social responsibility, geo-political risk, financial irregularities, and litigation risk.
- Prepare summary and presentation materials for analysis by business areas and firmwide committees.
- Brief BIG team members and other divisions on research findings verbally and present results on conference calls.
- Develop relevant industry/regional expertise and anticipate potential reputational risks.
- Participate in ad hoc special projects.
Skills and Experience We Are Looking For
- 1 to 4 years of relevant experience in due diligence, corporate investigations, or the financial sector.
- Technical and research proficiency, including open source/public records research, online research, and experience with compliance and media databases (e.g., Factiva).
- Foreign language skills are preferred but not essential.
- Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills to assess risks within commercial contexts and propose mitigation solutions.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present conclusions confidently and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- High attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to process and analyze large volumes of information.
- Intellectual curiosity and an interest in current events and international relations.
- Team player with the ability to collaborate across different seniority levels and jurisdictions.
- Highly organized and able to work effectively in a fast-paced, sometimes pressured environment, taking a proactive approach.
- General experience with or interest in the investment banking industry and knowledge of various investing and lending transactions.
- Strong sense of discretion regarding highly confidential information.
