Summary

Goldbelt Glacier Health Services is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Technical Writer to support the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Planning and Exercise Division (PED). The role involves editing, formatting, and developing a broad range of technical documentation including operational plans, needs assessments, and policy papers to ensure clarity, consistency, and adherence to federal standards, including Section 508 compliance. The position plays a key role in developing strategic and operational plans to strengthen FEMA’s disaster and emergency response capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Edit and refine various technical documents including operational plans, SOPs, needs assessments, and policy papers.
• Ensure documentation accuracy, clarity, and alignment with FEMA's standards and mission.
• Review and revise content for grammar, tone, consistency, and formatting.
• Ensure full Section 508 compliance, including document tagging and accessible templates.
• Collaborate with planners, analysts, and SMEs to translate technical details into readable content.
• Maintain version control and manage content updates on shared platforms like SharePoint and Teams.
• Assist in the development of planning templates, checklists, and enterprise tools.
• Support the production of communication materials for internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

Required Skills & Knowledge: Strong writing skills, expertise in Section 508 compliance, proficiency in Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat Pro, and familiarity with style guides (GPO or Chicago Manual of Style). Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with high attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications: Minimum three years’ experience editing technical documents such as operational plans, needs assessments, and policy papers, expertise in Section 508 compliance, and a Public Trust clearance.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with FEMA or federal emergency management agencies and familiarity with FEMA doctrine including the National Response Framework and National Preparedness System.

Pay And Benefits

The salary range for this position is $75,000 to $115,000 annually.
