Job Overview

The Azure SQL DBA role at Goavega is a hands-on operational position responsible for operational management, performance tuning and security of Azure SQL Databases, Managed Instances, and Elastic Pools in a managed service environment. The role ensures availability, compliance, and SLA adherence through proactive monitoring, automation, and quick incident resolution.

Key Responsibilities

Azure SQL Administration:

• Daily health checks, backup verifications, and performance monitoring.
• Manage user access, roles, and authentication via Entra ID / Azure AD.
• Configure and maintain database auditing, threat detection, and alerts.
• Monitor DTU/vCore usage and recommend scaling or indexing improvements.
• Implement geo-replication, automated backups, and retention policies.
• Ensure database configurations meet security and compliance requirements.

Operational Support & Incident Management:

• Respond to database-related incidents and alerts via ITSM tools like ServiceNow and Jira ServiceDesk.
• Troubleshoot connectivity, performance, and authentication issues.
• Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for high-severity incidents.
• Participate in 24×7 on-call rotation for managed service operations.

Automation & Optimization:

• Develop scripts using PowerShell, T-SQL, or Azure CLI for automation.
• Optimize database performance via indexing, statistics, and tuning.
• Improve monitoring and alerting workflows continuously.

Security & Compliance:

• Maintain least-privilege access models and perform regular permission reviews.
• Integrate audit logs with centralized monitoring solutions.
• Support compliance reporting for ISO 27001 and SOC2 environments.
