GLOW - Government Lawyers Oversight Watchdog is dedicated to enhancing public access to information about the conduct of government attorneys. We have created and are maintaining the Government Lawyers Database, a freely accessible database documenting government lawyers' conduct. By promoting transparency and accountability, we advocate for policies that build public confidence in the legal work performed by government lawyers.
Role Description
As a Senior Legal Editor, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of our Government Lawyers Database. This volunteer position requires a commitment to the rule of law and an eye for detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and Edit Profiles: Validate attorney profiles drafted by our team of volunteers (law students and junior lawyers) to ensure factual and legal accuracy.
- Ensure Adherence to our Editorial Policies: Verify the content is objectively supported by publicly available sources, and is free of biases.
- Mentor Junior Volunteers: Provide guidance to the researchers drafting initial profiles to maintain high standards of legal writing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience: At least 10 years experience in legal research and/or practice.
- Commitment: Able to commit to an average of about 3 volunteering hours per week.
- Experienced with court docket research on databases such as PACER or Court Listener RECAP.
- Strong Research and Writing skills relevant to legal frameworks and public-policy initiatives.
