Job Description

Overview of the Principal Product Manager, Continuous Delivery Role

As the Principal Product Manager for GitLab's AI-First Continuous Delivery capabilities, you will be instrumental in shaping the product strategy and roadmap. This pivotal role focuses on how teams build, release, and deploy software confidently in the evolving AI era. As a founding PM on a strategic initiative, you will define AI-native, enterprise-grade CD, encompassing AI agent deployment governance, compliance controls, Kubernetes and container deployments, and platform experiences ensuring trustworthy deployment at scale.

You will lead with a strong perspective on modern delivery's evolution in the age of AI, translating customer challenges and market insights into clear product direction. This direction will empower teams to accelerate while maintaining reliability and control. Operating with high autonomy, you will collaborate closely with Engineering, UX, Product Design, Customer Success, and go-to-market teams to achieve significant user outcomes and measurable business impact for GitLab. In your first year, expect to launch the initial version of GitLab AI-First CD, establish critical customer feedback loops, and partner with Sales to drive revenue outcomes. This role demands a founder's mindset, thriving in ambiguity, and a passion for building what doesn't yet exist, with the potential to define a new product category.

What You'll Do

  • Own the product strategy and comprehensive roadmap for GitLab AI-First CD, covering AI agent deployment governance, compliance controls in highly regulated industries, Kubernetes and container deployments, and platform-level analytics and reporting.
  • Develop a distinct viewpoint on the CD market's evolution in the AI era through direct customer engagement, field conversations, analyst relationships, and competitive intelligence.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, UX, Product Design, and Quality to define problems, assess trade-offs, deliver improvements, and guide development and testing throughout delivery cycles.
  • Work with Sales, Customer Success, Support, and Field teams to understand customer needs and adoption blockers, translating them into clear product requirements and release plans, and supporting customer-facing discussions.
  • Define and track success metrics for your product area, conduct lightweight validations for new workflow ideas, and utilize customer feedback and product data to inform iteration and measure outcomes.
  • Build robust cross-functional alignment across relevant GitLab stages and groups to ensure cohesive end-to-end experiences, connecting build, release, deploy, and environment workflows.
  • Represent the Continuous Delivery product area both internally and externally, communicating the roadmap, key decisions, and customer value in clear, straightforward language.

What You'll Bring

  • Extensive product management experience with complex, technical B2B SaaS and developer-facing platforms, demonstrating a proven track record of launching new products and translating customer needs into clear product strategy and measurable outcomes.
  • A founder's mindset: capability to create structure amidst ambiguity, make decisions with incomplete information, and take personal accountability for outcomes rather than just outputs.
  • Deep experience with CI/CD systems and deployment tooling, including developing capabilities that enhance pipeline reliability, performance, and usability at scale in enterprise environments.
  • Comfort engaging deeply with Engineering on implementation details when necessary, including discussing technology trade-offs and their impact on product outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of personas across the software delivery lifecycle – including developers, platform and DevOps engineers, engineering leaders, and release managers – and their evaluation and adoption of delivery tooling.
  • High technical fluency, enabling credible engagement with senior engineers on deployment architecture, AI-assisted workflows, Kubernetes, and platform integrations.
  • A highly analytical and data-driven approach: ability to synthesize qualitative feedback, product usage data, and market research into actionable insights and iterative improvements.

About The Team

The Continuous Delivery team at GitLab builds and evolves capabilities that help teams deliver software reliably and repeatedly, from continuous integration (CI) through deployment and release workflows. You'll join a collaborative group of product managers who partner closely with Engineering, UX, Quality, Customer Success, Support, and Go-to-Market teams to understand customer needs, prioritize the right problems, and ship improvements that make GitLab a great place to build and deliver software.

The broader team operates in a distributed, asynchronous manner across regions, guided by GitLab's values of transparency, iteration, and trusted empowerment. As a Principal Product Manager, Continuous Delivery, you will operate with high autonomy and significant cross-functional influence, helping align strategy across related stages of the software development lifecycle and driving clarity on priorities, outcomes, and what 'great' looks like for customers using GitLab to deliver software at scale.
