About the Director, Global Compensation Role

GitLab is searching for a Director, Global Compensation to shape innovative compensation strategies that attract, motivate, and retain world-class talent. This role combines strategic thinking with hands-on execution to design and implement comprehensive compensation frameworks, mentor a high-performing team, and drive impactful projects across the globe.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Program Development: Design and execute a comprehensive compensation strategy; support executive programs; manage annual merit reviews, bonus structures, and equity planning initiatives.
  • Innovation & Optimization: Enhance job architecture and career progression; serve as a subject matter expert on incentive programs; analyze and optimize global compensation programs.
  • Communication & Stakeholder Partnership: Develop clear communication strategies; partner with business leaders on compensation decisions; stay updated on market trends.
  • Growth & Team Leadership: Guide M&A compensation strategies; lead and develop a global team of compensation professionals.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in compensation design and leadership in global organizations.
  • Deep expertise in executive compensation with strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments and drive consensus among diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience in presenting complex analyses.
  • Experience in both public company and startup environments, leading remote teams.
