Overview of the Staff IT Product Manager Role
As a Staff IT Product Manager at GitHub, you will join the CISO organization, taking ownership of the internal IT Services product strategy and roadmap. This role involves close collaboration with a diverse team of Engineers, managing product lifecycles across IT-owned systems and services. You will define and drive product strategy and roadmap, oversee the product lifecycle from definition to release, and analyze product performance for necessary redesign. This position requires working with senior leaders to proactively identify solution needs and shortcomings within IT-owned systems. Key responsibilities include managing new demand intake, project boards, and backlogs, as well as planning and driving sprints with clear user stories and success criteria. You will manage prioritization and trade-offs, collaborating cross-functionally with design, technology, change management, Security Operations, and Risk teams to ensure timely, quality, and secure releases.
Key Responsibilities
- Stakeholder Enablement: Proactively determine solution needs and shortcomings with senior leaders, directing discussions, removing roadblocks, and resolving complex issues. Translate stakeholder needs into actionable technical solutions, serving as a subject matter expert for configurations and customizations. Develop future strategy for inter-job family initiatives and external/vendor collaborations, aligning leaders on end goals and prioritizing evolving needs.
- Solution Implementation: Direct collaboration with engineering teams on software and technical solutions, including leading senior managers in creating integrations between platforms and GitHub systems. Coordinate solution feature demonstrations for stakeholders, ensure successful implementation within GitHub, and work with senior leaders to create compliance standards. Direct strategic partnerships for developer testing (e.g., unit, automated, regression) and enable team members for User Acceptance Testing (UAT), using data for strategic decisions. Provide expert assistance for internal products and software, ensuring readiness and documentation for end users.
- Vendor Management: Lead cross-functional efforts with external software vendors for strategic integrations. Oversee efforts with internal and external stakeholders and manage resources for contract renewals.
- Data Handling: Develop effective and compliant data management strategies, plan regular backups and data restoration, and develop SQL queries for data analysis. Utilize expertise in data models to understand system behavior and prevent large-scale failures, ensuring data reports are accurate and aligned with business needs.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years experience in program/product management and business systems implementation; OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Business Administration, Business Information Systems, or related field AND 8+ years experience; OR Master's Degree AND 6+ years experience; OR Doctorate AND 3+ years experience; OR equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- 14+ years experience in program management and business systems implementation; OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Business Administration, Business Information Systems, or related field AND 12+ years experience; OR Master's Degree AND 10+ years experience; OR Doctorate AND 8+ years experience; OR equivalent experience.
Compensation
The base salary range for this role is USD $121,800.00 - USD $323,200.00 per year, covering roles across the United States. Individual pay depends on location, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. GitHub offers benefits and additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock, allocated based on individual impact. Sales incentives may also be available for certain roles.
