Overview
GitHub is changing the way the world builds software and we want you to help lead this effort. The Compute Foundation team owns and operates critical runtime layers powering GitHub’s internal compute platform. This role supports hypervisor-based GC2 VM platform, OS and container base images, fleet-wide configuration management, and secure, automated reboot orchestration across global data centers. As a Software Engineer III, you will work with a distributed team to improve reliability, safety, and automation of our compute platform.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement reliable, secure, and performant systems.
- Build features and automation to reduce operational toil.
- Maintain and improve compute and lifecycle services.
- Write, review, and maintain high-quality code using GitHub best practices.
- Collaborate with partner teams and contribute to documentation and asynchronous communication.
- Participate in on-call rotations and incident response initiatives.
Qualifications
Required: 4+ years in infrastructure domains or a related degree with 2+ years of technical experience. Minimum 2+ years in building high traffic applications and supporting cloud native workloads in Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
Preferred: Experience with Azure or other cloud providers, planetary scale systems, remote teamwork, and strong communication skills. Familiarity with Cloud Native Compute Foundation (CNCF) concepts is beneficial.
Compensation & Benefits
The base salary range for this role is USD $107,700.00 - USD $285,900.00 per year, with additional benefits including annual bonus, stock, and potential sales incentives.
