About GitHub

GitHub is the world’s leading platform for agentic software development — powered by Copilot to build, scale, and deliver secure software. Over 180 million developers, including more than 90% of the Fortune 100 companies, use GitHub to collaborate, and more than 77,000 organisations have adopted GitHub Copilot.

Location

This Principal Product Manager role is remote, available throughout the United States.

Overview of the Principal Product Manager Role

In this critical position, you’ll partner directly with the SVP of Product to define, execute, and evangelize the vision for Copilot’s experience on GitHub.com. You’ll work hands-on with designers, engineers, and cross-functional partners to deliver an intuitive, delightful, and AI-powered experience for millions of developers around the world.

Your mission: make Copilot the tool developers can’t imagine working without, by focusing on usability, discovery, and workflow integration. Always with a relentless attention to detail and a bias for clarity over flash.

At GitHub, your work will reach a global audience. With over 180 million developers using GitHub, this is an opportunity to make a tangible, lasting impact on how software is built.

Responsibilities

  • Help define and ship end-to-end Copilot user experiences on GitHub.com, with a focus on making AI-powered development frictionless, powerful, and accessible.
  • Build and drive the product strategy for Copilot UX, partnering closely with the SVP of Product and the design and engineering teams.
  • Lead innovation in product design—set a high bar for design quality, usability, and developer delight. Make design a competitive advantage.
  • Engage deeply with customers and the developer community—listen, learn, and turn insights into differentiated product experiences.
  • Represent the developer’s perspective in every decision. Advocate for the needs, workflows, and challenges of real users.
  • Collaborate across teams and disciplines to align on goals, define priorities, and deliver high-impact solutions.
  • Analyze usage data and customer feedback to identify pain points and opportunities. Use data to inform and prioritize work, not just to report on it.
  • Define clear, measurable success criteria at product inception; track and communicate progress to stakeholders.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for Copilot user experience and a connector between product, design, engineering, and business partners.
  • Champion a culture of innovation, clarity, and empathy for developers.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years experience in product/service/project/program management, software development, product design, or related field OR Bachelor's Degree in related field AND 8+ years experience in product/service/project/program management, software development, product design, or related field OR equivalent experience
  • Experience leading user experience or product design for developer tools or technical products.
  • Experience engaging with customers and presenting to executive audiences.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% to meet with users, partners, and teams as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong track record of shipping products that solve real user problems and are loved by their communities.
  • Master’s Degree in Business, Marketing, or related field AND 13+ years experience in product/service/project/program management, software development, product design, or related field.
