Overview of the Executive Assistant Role
GitHub is seeking an experienced Executive Assistant (EA) to provide strategic support to the Chief People Officer. This pivotal role extends beyond traditional administrative tasks, requiring you to act as a strategic partner in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. You will need exceptional judgment, foresight, and adaptability to manage complex scheduling, coordinate travel and offsites, oversee key projects, and ensure operational efficiency across the organization.
This hybrid role, based in Redmond, WA, requires regular onsite support at least once per week. You will report directly to the Chief People Officer, collaborating closely with leaders across the team and the broader organization. The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguity, proactively anticipates needs, and offers solutions to drive the business forward. Success in this role demands strong executive presence, strategic thinking, and a bias for action to optimize the leader’s time and priorities effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Make sound decisions with limited information and effectively reprioritize multiple times daily while maintaining composure.
- Exercise executive judgment to resolve issues independently, knowing when escalation is necessary.
- Anticipate needs, identify risks and conflicts, and prepare the leader with proactive solutions.
- Design and maintain an intentional calendar that protects focus time and sequences meetings for maximum impact across time zones.
- Balance meeting requests and urgent escalations while preserving the leader’s time and boundaries.
- Provide strategic oversight and execution of meetings, offsites, and key engagements, ensuring clarity, alignment, and efficient resource use.
- Manage logistics for meetings and offsites, including workback schedules, communication cascades, notes, and action items.
- Coordinate domestic and international travel arrangements, including accommodations, transportation, documentation, and daily itineraries.
- Act as a stand-by resource during business travel.
- Represent the leader and GitHub’s values through professional communication, acting as a liaison between executives and teams.
- Execute the rhythm of the business in partnership with the Chief of Staff, maintaining organization-wide calendars and communications.
- Demonstrate ownership, curiosity, and a bias for action, continuously seeking process and outcome improvements.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in Administrative, Business Support, or customer service, with emphasis on scheduling, event/offsite coordination, travel management, and administration for leaders.
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Marketing, Communications, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field AND 3+ years of equivalent experience.
- Experience supporting multiple Vice Presidents in a complex, matrixed organization OR providing executive-level support to a C-suite leader.
- Experience providing business operations support, including offsite planning, onboarding coordination, and other project support activities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to travel up to 20% to support business and/or customer needs (local, domestic, international).
- Ability to oversee compliance with various standards, procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Ability to make decisions in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment and determine appropriate resolutions.
- Ability to verify the accuracy and completeness of detailed information in documents and meeting requests.
- Ability to exercise judgment and discretion, showing awareness of consequences, reactions, and legal implications.
