Overview
As a Data Scientist III, you will help build industry-leading solutions that empower GitHub’s Enterprise and Developer customers worldwide. You will leverage advanced data science and business acumen to address operational and product challenges focused on support forecasting, capacity planning, product adoption, and product health. This role drives development and refinement of predictive models that forecast support ticket volume, workload trends, and resource needs, considering the impact of AI and automation. You will align staffing and scheduling with demand, balance workloads across teams, and provide actionable insights to business stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Identify and acquire data necessary for analysis, transforming and exploring data while adhering to GitHub's privacy policies.
- Build, maintain, and refine forecasting models for business trends and resource needs.
- Translate forecasts into actionable staffing and scheduling recommendations aligned with service-level goals.
- Deliver forward-looking insights that highlight risks and enable proactive actions.
- Create visualizations, dashboards, and PowerBI reports for strategic decision making.
- Collaborate with Support Leadership, Analytics, and cross-functional partners to align forecasting assumptions and resource planning priorities.
- Work closely with engineering on the implications of AI automations on support capacity.
- Conduct data science experiments using established methodologies and appropriate tools.
- Write efficient, readable, and extensible code following software engineering best practices.
- Develop documentation for transferring knowledge and deploying predictive analytics models.
Qualifications
Required: Bachelor’s in Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science or related field with 4+ years of relevant experience; OR Master’s with 2+ years experience; OR Doctorate or equivalent experience.
Preferred: Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, SQL, Excel), strong problem-solving and communication skills, experience in forecasting models, and technical skills in Python, MySQL or similar.
Compensation
The base salary range for this role is USD 107,700.00 - 285,900.00 per year, with additional benefits, annual bonus, stock, and potential sales incentives based on performance.
