Software Development Team Lead, Ops Systems

At GHGSat, we build data pipelines that bring satellite emissions data to life. We use satellites and advanced sensors to detect greenhouse gas emissions with unprecedented precision, then process the data via our Operations Systems team.

This role is a hands-on leadership position supporting a group of developers across the stack. You will collaborate closely with product, science, and platform teams to create robust, scalable solutions.

What You'll Do

  • Support developers working on data pipelines, databases, and internal APIs
  • Create an environment of autonomy, mentorship, and learning
  • Stay engaged with design decisions and technical solutions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure clear, well-scoped solutions
  • Champion engineering practices such as testing, documentation, and observability
  • Help shape long-term software vision for this stack
  • Support team growth both technically and career-wise

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience in a formal leadership role with responsibility for mentoring developers
  • 5+ years of software development experience, especially in Python and AWS
  • Ability to reason across entire systems, not just components
  • Strong written communication skills
  • A thoughtful approach to both team dynamics and technical building blocks

Bonus Points

  • Experience with cloud-based software, APIs, data pipelines, and databases
  • Familiarity with scientific or geospatial data
  • Passion for developer experience, inclusive leadership, and systems thinking
  • French/English bilingualism
