About the Role - Software Engineering Manager AV Frameworks
We’re AV Platform Core at General Motors and hiring a manager for the AV frameworks team. This team builds the foundational frameworks that power robotics and autonomous capabilities across distributed compute with a focus on inter-process communication (IPC), middleware, and developer experience to ensure systems are reliable, observable, and fast.
What You’ll Do
- Direct oversight of engineers building highly performant software for Autonomous Vehicles and supporting infrastructure.
- Set technical direction alongside technical leads, anticipating strategic challenges.
- Create and execute a roadmap with Engineering Directors and Technical Program Managers.
- Drive software engineering best practices and conduct performance reviews.
- Foster a collaborative culture and support team growth into leadership roles.
- Define, build, and embody GM engineering culture and principles.
- Invest in recruiting and external engagement to enhance the GM engineering brand.
What We’re Looking For
- 3+ years experience managing teams that have shipped scalable production systems.
- 5+ years experience in software engineering roles.
- Strong background in high-performance IPC and middleware primitives.
- Experience in delivering platform-ready components with observability and fault handling.
- Self-motivated leader with effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent real world experience.
Compensation & Benefits
Base compensation expected between $189,300 and $290,700 with bonus potential tied to company and individual performance. GM offers comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, retirement plans, and more.
Work Arrangement
This role is based remotely with occasional in-hub reports if within a specified mile radius. Relocation benefits may apply. The position is subject to export control restrictions and requires the candidate to be a U.S. Person.
