Based in Warren, Michigan, where art, design, and technology converge, General Motors North America has exciting opportunities for creative designers across our Advanced and Production studios. We are seeking a Senior Creative Designer to join our team, contributing to forward-thinking, extraordinary elements in production design.
About the Role
As a Senior Creative Designer at GM, you will be a vital part of a connected, global design team. We are looking for someone who thrives in a team environment, manages multiple tasks and timelines effectively, and possesses strong design taste, judgment, and creativity. Your role involves seeing the future by researching, designing, and creating proposals for innovative concepts in automotive and mobility applications. You will create fresh, innovative interior designs with customer experience and brand strategy in mind, generating concepts in both 2D and 3D. You will adeptly refine ideas based on feedback, coordinate the work of other design personnel, and collaborate with multiple partners to achieve design goals, following the design process from sketch to final release clay model.
What You'll Do
- Lead a design team to develop bold interior designs that support brand goals and enhance customer experience.
- Translate ideas into finished designs using 2D sketches, animations, 3D sketch tools, and collaborate with clay and digital sculpting teams.
- Collaborate frequently with the design team, sculpting organization, engineering, and fabrication teams in the development of new designs.
- Provide insight and recommendations to leadership, acting upon guidance in a deadline-driven environment.
- Maintain knowledge of current design trends and technology.
- Present ideas frequently to management and leadership to communicate design concepts.
- Exhibit courage and challenge expectations.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in an OEM design studio.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Design (Automotive, Transportation, Industrial…).
- Strong understanding of form, 2-D to 3-D interpretation, and ability to visualize.
- Demonstrated creativity, independence, autonomy, problem-solving skills, design judgment, team spirit, and volume understanding.
- Ability to work independently, lead a team, and provide mentoring.
- Portfolio showcasing several series of sketches and ideations, and production program experience samples.
