Scientific Review Officer Part Time

GDIT assists federal, state and private grant-funding agencies in identifying promising research projects through fair and thorough assessments of scientific merit by expert reviewers. We support diverse research programs including cancer research, neurosciences, military health, and educational research.Rigorous peer review is fundamental to sound grant funding decisions. We are seeking Scientific Review Officers (SROs) to join our remote team on an intermittent, on-call basis. As an SRO, you will identify qualified reviewers with relevant expertise and manage the peer review process to ensure reviewers consistently apply program criteria to applications.This is a part-time, long-term, on-call position with variable time commitments throughout the review cycle. To remain on the team, SROs typically manage 3-4 Peer Review projects annually, with high performers handling up to 9-10. Billable hours vary by project size and complexity.While SRO positions are home-based with flexible hours, candidates must be available for up to 8 hours on certain days and may require travel for peer review meetings (up to 4 days per meeting). Candidates should not have current research grants or be applying for them, nor work for federally funded programs. This role can be combined with other jobs if there are no conflicts of interest.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit qualified reviewers with the subject matter expertise required and to meet client criteria.
  • Provide guidance and instruction to reviewers on policies, guidelines, and criteria; monitor critique preparation and submission.
  • Monitor conflicts of interest issues.
  • Administer and facilitate peer review meetings according to established policies.
  • Prepare documentation outlining the outcomes of the peer review process.

Required Qualifications

  • MD, DVM, and/or PhD degree.
  • 5+ years of work experience after postdoctoral work.
  • Outstanding verbal and writing skills, meticulous attention to detail, excellent organizational and time management skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems and find quick solutions while adhering to established policies.
  • Flexibility in work schedule to address urgent issues immediately without delays.
  • Proficiency in MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS Teams, and Zoom.

Additional Desired Qualifications

  • 10+ years of work experience after postdoctoral work.
  • Prior (not current) experience in a Military Treatment Facility (MTF) or DoW Laboratory as a veteran or civilian.
  • Clinical work experience.
