Role Summary/Purpose

GE Vernova is actively seeking a dedicated and safety-focused Operator in Training (OIT) to join our dynamic power generation team in Vancouver, WA. This entry-level position is pivotal in supporting the daily operational and maintenance tasks across key plant systems. You will be instrumental in ensuring the smooth functioning of gas turbines, steam turbines, diesel generators, pumps, compressors, and advanced water treatment systems.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Work with mechanical equipment including diesel engines, emergency generator, heat recovery steam generator, reverse osmosis and EDI water treatment systems, air compressors, motors, and pumps.
  • Perform routine inspections and tests to ensure optimal plant operation.
  • Monitor and maintain all required data logs/records outside the control room.
  • Record meter and gauge readings, water test results, and fuel consumption data.
  • Assist in critical plant shutdown and startup procedures.
  • Operate all plant equipment/systems within the defined scope of responsibility.
  • Support or perform routine maintenance of basic plant equipment.
  • Report any operational conflicts directly to the Shift Supervisor.
  • Complete routine inspections and assigned tasks for the site's Discharge Prevention Containment and Countermeasures Plan, handling hazardous materials and wastes safely.
  • Actively maintain a safe working environment, uphold good housekeeping practices, and comply with all environmental, health, and safety policies.
  • Respond to all alarms and malfunctions, taking corrective measures under Shift Supervisor guidance.
  • Execute maintenance activities as directed.
  • Perform Lock Out Tag Out duties following site procedures.
  • Undertake other requested duties and reasonable requests from the shift supervisor and manager.

Eligibility Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED with 2+ years of industrial experience OR an Associate’s degree in Power Generation, Mechanical, Electrical, or a related field.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Ability and willingness to work rotating shifts.
  • Capable of climbing ladders and stairs, and walking/standing for up to 12 hours.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must pass a drug test and background check.
  • Willingness to complete a physical, hearing, and respirator use evaluations upon hire and annually.
  • Demonstrated teamwork ability in daily operating and safety tasks.
  • Strong analytical skills: define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret technical instructions and manage multiple variables.
  • Commitment to complying with all applicable environmental, health, and safety policies.
  • Ability to accept feedback and handle high-stress situations calmly.
  • Adaptability to daily work scope changes for facility operation.
  • Strong mathematical knowledge for calculations (proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction across all organizational levels.
  • Working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office applications.
