About the role
Lead Control Engineer
The Lead Controls Engineer is a key member of the Power Conversion & Storage controls engineering team, working in an international capacity. This role is responsible for the validation, field implementation, and maintenance of GE’s Solar, BESS (Battery Energy Storage System), and Hybrid Software and Control Systems for various projects. Responsibilities span AC and DC systems, building controls, inverter controls, unit level controls, plant level controls, SCADA, and interfaces with upper-level customer control systems.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Manage project deliverables, including controls software validation and commissioning support for Solar, BESS, and Hybrid Plant Control Systems and Inverters.
- Provide on-site startup and integration support for various systems with GE's hardware and software.
- Track the overall status of controls deliverables for assigned projects to meet team objectives.
- Engage closely with Project Managers and customers to define requirements and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Communicate effectively and collaborate with customers, presenting technical information with confidence and clarity.
- Develop, enhance, and deliver customer training materials for the control system.
- Collaborate with Hybrid engineering and services teams to create documentation for installation, commissioning, and operations for both internal GE use and customers.
- Design and deploy control hardware configurations, including communication networks (DI/DO, Ethernet, FO, etc.) as part of a team.
- Support the identification and resolution of problems with new and installed products.
- Drive enhancements in performance and reliability back to the product.
- Actively participate in controls design, software code reviews, testing, and software validation.
- Contribute to the standardization of controls project execution, software validation, and implementation.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor/Master degree in Electrical / Electronics / Instrumentation / Controls Engineering / Science or a STEM field from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in software and controls development using high-level programming languages and project execution.

- Strong experience with GE’s MarkVIe product and associated tools (e.g., GE’s Toolbox ST, Workstation ST, Cimplicity software (SCADA), P80i software, HDM, Simulink).
- Demonstrated software expertise in Solar, Energy storage, Plant level controls, validation and verification, formal methods, systems integration, advanced controls, or related technologies.
- Familiarity with standard industrial protocols such as OPC-UA, Modbus, EGD, Profibus, CAN bus, IEC 61850, IEC 104, etc.
- Experience with various country grid code compliance requirements.
- Experience in the power generation industry (renewable, thermal, nuclear, etc.).
- Strong experience with communication network equipment functionality, selection, software features, hardware, and cybersecurity.
- Demonstrated implementation of controls or systems integration in products and field engineering experience.
- Ability to summarize and communicate complex technical information clearly.
- Strong problem analysis and resolution skills.
- Curiosity, passion for excellence, and a drive for on-time delivery.
