Job Description
AI Research Intern at GE HealthCare
We are seeking passionate PhD students actively involved in AI/ML to join GE HealthCare. You will contribute to developing next-generation AI technologies with a profound impact on medicine and healthcare. Work alongside top researchers and domain experts in AI for health, focusing on deep learning solutions like vision foundational models and large language models. Prepare research publications for leading AI venues, building on our researchers' history of publications at NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, AAAI, KDD, CVPR, EMNLP, and ACL.
Research Areas Include:
- Medical imaging foundation models across diverse imaging types, diseases, and organs.
- Multi-modal medical imaging analysis and report generation.
- LLMs for clinical efficiencies.
- Multimodal phenotyping for accurate disease diagnosis, subtyping, and progression modeling, as well as patient retrieval, trial matching, and health monitoring.
- Responsible AI (interpretable models, trustworthiness, fairness, etc.).
- Multimodal EMR generation.

Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop novel machine learning algorithms, particularly in LLM, for automating clinical tasks using medical images, EMRs, waveforms, and clinical reports.
- Demonstrate algorithm accuracy through statistical analyses and error estimation.
- Build prototypes for high-performance AI algorithms in scalable, product-ready code.
- Initiate and propose unique deep learning capabilities, develop innovative algorithms, and pursue patents/publications.
- Research and evaluate emerging technology and industry trends to support product development.
Basic Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a PhD or Master's degree in computer science or related fields, or entering a PhD program in Fall 2026.
- Experience in a computer science area (e.g., Natural Language Understanding, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Algorithmic Foundations of Optimization).
- Proficiency in one or more general-purpose programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, C/C++).
- In-depth experience with Spark/Hadoop and either PyTorch/Tensorflow.
- Experience creating production environment data analytics and applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Extensive experience handling noisy real-world medical and patient data.
- Experience with large-scale AI training.
Compensation:
The pay rate for this position is $45-62/hr.
