Overview
Garmin is seeking a full-time Design Certification Engineer 1 for the Aviation Design Certification Engineering team in Salem, OR. In this role, you will participate in avionics hardware, product, project, and system development by utilizing a diverse set of engineering skills.
Essential Functions
- Assist Project Engineers in managing avionics design teams.
- Guide development teams by following established design engineering processes.
- Produce and submit key FAA documents to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Define new products and systems through conceptual and product development.
- Provide system level safety analysis of integrated avionics systems.
- Plan, develop, and implement technical compliance activities per standards and regulations.
- Lead and participate in product development reviews.
- Interface across organizational boundaries for coordinated avionics development.
- Review and update hardware development process documents.
- Validate, design, and verify avionics hardware, FPGA, and/or software.
- Develop and execute hardware test plans.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent. Excellent academics (cumulative GPA ≥ 3.0) and ability to work well in a diverse team. Desire to take ownership of new and/or existing products.
Desired Qualifications
Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA ≥ 3.5), aviation-related experience, knowledge of aviation design processes (e.g. SAE ARP 4754, RTCA DO-160, or DO-254), project management, electronic design or environmental testing experience and familiarity with safety analysis, FMEAs, and Boolean logic diagrams.
