About the role

Aviation Systems Engineer 1

We are seeking a full-time Aviation Systems Engineer 1 at our Salem, OR location. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting successful conception, development, and/or application of sophisticated avionics systems including identifying and documenting basic customer and regulatory requirements for existing functionality or interfaces in addition to assessing system compliance with a select set of customer requirements and creating system design and requirement documentation.

Essential Functions

  • Identifies/documents technical scope of change in support of small changes to already supported functionality or interfaces
  • Creates a simple set of system requirements and technical description documentation for well-defined functionality, following requirements standards and documented best practices
  • Assesses compliance with a select set of system requirements utilizing existing hardware, software, and configuration
  • Generates and/or executes bench test plans/procedures to verify system requirements, clearly documenting testing performed and any issues observed during testing
  • Troubleshoots basic integration bench and/or simulator setup issues
  • Analyzes system design, performance, safety, and/or security for existing functionality in accordance with applicable processes/procedures
  • Supports the maintenance of system-level processes, best practices, and/or tools for systems engineering, development assurance, and/or cybersecurity
  • Communicates status of work and thoroughly documents work to clearly provide visibility to supervisor and/or mentor
  • Works collaboratively and professionally in a team environment with other Garmin associates to achieve goals
  • Applies a sense of urgency, commitment, and focus on the right priorities in developing solutions in a timely fashion

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or another related technical field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) with the demonstrated ability to apply learned knowledge
  • Demonstrated basic knowledge and troubleshooting skills in one or more of the following technical areas: Systems Integration, System Safety, System Requirements, System Security
  • Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude, and work well with others
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in an Engineering field
  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5 as a general rule)
  • Demonstrated passion for and involvement in the aviation community
  • Operational knowledge of Garmin or competitive avionics
  • Previous work or internship experience with consumer or aviation products
