About The Role
At Frontiers, we are rewriting the rules of scientific publishing. To support our scale, we are transforming our Engineering Platform into a state-of-the-art Internal Developer Platform (IDP) based on modern principles and AI-augmented workflows. We are looking for a Senior Technical Product Manager to lead this evolution. You will act as the "Face" of Platform Engineering, bridging the gap between our technical capabilities and the needs of our Stream-Aligned Teams. You will form a strategic triad with our Senior Cloud Architect and Engineering Team Leads, co-creating a roadmap that delivers continuous, iterative value.
Responsibilities
- Proactively engage with stakeholders (Engineers, Team Leads, and Architects from Stream-Aligned Teams) on a daily/weekly basis to understand their roadmap and anticipate their needs across the entire SDLC. Identify tools and capabilities that streamline workflows and accelerate delivery.
- Embrace a strictly Agile mindset, slicing complex technical initiatives into small, deliverable iterations that provide immediate value and ensuring the team is always working on the absolute highest priority items.
- Facilitate joint prioritization sessions with stakeholders, agreeing on what gets built next to create shared ownership and high engagement, while transparently managing expectations regarding request prioritization.
- Own the monthly Platform Review, presenting progress, showcasing metrics (adoption, speed), and outlining the next month's priorities to the wider engineering organization for visibility and feedback.
- Work lock-step with the Senior Cloud Architect and Platform Team Leads, defining the "What" (Value) based on stakeholder needs and trusting them on the "How" (Implementation) for feasible and sustainable technical solutions.
- Explore and drive strategies to integrate AI into our SDLC (e.g., evaluating tools like Cursor AI or GitHub Spec-Kit), ensuring the platform remains at the cutting edge and ready for an AI-augmented future.
- Move beyond assumptions by using structured feedback loops (surveys, RFCs) and data (NewRelic, adoption rates) to prove that "Golden Paths" and tools are actually reducing cognitive load and lead time.
Requirements
- 5+ years in Technical Product Management or Engineering Leadership.
- Proven track record of managing complex stakeholder maps in a large engineering organization, running roadmap reviews, and negotiating priorities.
- Deep experience with Agile methodologies, backlog grooming, and iterative delivery in technical environments.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Azure, Kubernetes (AKS), and modern CI/CD ecosystems (e.g., GitHub Actions).
- Professional-level English (spoken and written).
Nice to Have
- Experience facilitating "InnerSource" or community-driven platform contributions.
- Interest or experience in Spec-Driven Development and AI coding assistants.
- Background in Scientific Publishing.
Benefits
- We prioritise office presence and emphasise in-person collaboration, but also offer appropriate adjustments where needed, in line with company policy.
- Extra wellbeing days on top of your annual leave allowance.
- Up to 3 paid volunteering days each year.
- 24/7 confidential Employee Assistance Programme (wellbeing, mental health, legal & financial support).
- Learning & development support via the Frontiers Learning Hub.
- Competitive local benefits country dependent (e.g. healthcare and pension/retirement provision).
Frontiers actively embraces diversity and is a safe and welcoming workplace. Recruitment is free from discrimination - including based on race, national or ethnic origin, age, religion, disability, sex, gender identity or sexual orientation.
