About the role
Outpatient Registered Nurse - RN
Fresenius Medical Care is seeking an entry-level Outpatient Registered Nurse to join their Clinical Advancement Program (CAP 1). This role is responsible for providing and coordinating comprehensive patient care, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients. The Outpatient RN will also delegate tasks to direct patient care staff and participate in decision-making, teaching, leadership, and quality improvement activities to enhance patient care outcomes and facility operations.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
All duties must be performed in accordance with Fresenius Kidney Care policies, procedures, nursing standards, and state/federal regulations.
- Performs essential functions under the direction of a Supervisor and guidance from a Clinical Educator, Preceptor, or in collaboration with other Registered Nurses.
- Conducts ongoing patient assessments pre, during, and post-hemodialysis treatment, documenting in the patient medical record and adjusting treatment plans as needed.
- Assesses, collaborates, and documents patient/family learning needs, providing education.
- Directs and provides all aspects of daily hemodialysis therapy delivery to assigned patients in collaboration with patient care staff.
- Administers medications as prescribed or per approved algorithms, documenting justification and effectiveness.
- Initiates or assists with emergency response measures.
- Serves as a resource for the healthcare team and participates in staff training and new employee orientation.
- Ensures correct laboratory collection, processing, and shipping procedures and reschedules missed collections.
- Identifies expected outcomes and updates the nursing assessment and plan of care through Interdisciplinary Team collaboration.
- Ensures patient awareness regarding transplant and treatment modality options.
- Required to complete CAP requirements for advancement.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
This role involves direct patient care with frequent heavy lifting, moving patients, and assisting with ambulation. It requires prolonged standing and bending. Employees may occasionally move equipment up to 200 lbs and lift chemical/water solutions up to 30 lbs. The work environment is a health care facility with moderate noise levels and potential exposure to infectious materials. Daily tasks include desk work, computer use, and interaction with patients, staff, and physicians. Travel to training sites or other facilities may be required.
Supervision:
Assigned oversight of Patient Care Technicians/LPNs/LVNs/RNs as a Team Leader or designated Nurse in Charge, after meeting specific experience and training requirements.
Education and Licensure:
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- Current appropriate state licensure.
- Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification.
- Must meet practice requirements in the state of employment.
Experience and Required Skills:
- Entry-level for RNs with less than 2 years of Nephrology Nursing experience.
- Chronic/acute hemodialysis experience is preferred.
