Position Description

The Foundation for Food & Agriculture Research (FFAR) Production Systems Team is seeking a dynamic, self-starter to serve as a Scientific Program Manager for the crop research portfolio. This role drives innovation through research partnerships that improve crops and cropping systems across U.S. agriculture.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Crop Production Systems Team on crop research initiatives.
  • Oversee and manage existing crop research programs and projects.
  • Direct ongoing projects by facilitating meetings, resolving challenges, and tracking progress.
  • Manage new funding awards from proposal solicitation through award execution.
  • Support new program development by building relationships with funders.
  • Provide technical expertise in research strategy and landscaping efforts.
  • Lead stakeholder communications and represent FFAR to external partners.
  • Apply continuous improvement to adapt and strengthen research programs.

Qualifications

Doctorate or equivalent in an agricultural or plant science field, with deep technical expertise in crop research. Must have strong project management skills, expert communication abilities, and proficient interpersonal skills. Experience in tasks such as budget management, timeline adherence, and multi-stakeholder coordination is required.

Preferred Experience

Expertise in one or more of these areas: data analytics and modeling, predictive breeding, agronomy, precision agriculture, or cropping systems research. Familiarity with grants management, funding mechanisms (RFAs, competitions), and legal aspects of agreements is beneficial.
