Role Overview

The Director of Software Engineering will lead Enterprise Technology initiatives, focusing on delivering, architecting, and engineering a complex microservices ecosystem for the Shop journey on the Global eCommerce platform at Ford. This role involves building a modern greenfield open stack platform based on MACH architecture principles, technical leadership across multiple product lines, and managing diverse global teams.

Responsibilities

  • Global leadership with teams in India, US, and Europe
  • Technical leadership across multiple product lines on eCommerce platforms
  • Oversee a greenfield, next-generation commerce platform roadmap
  • Manage a team of 50+ engineers with an $8+M budget oversight
  • Lead AI feature development including Generative AI, Multi-Modal RAG, Semantic Search, and Vector Databases
  • Guide iterative development with MVP delivery and controlled releases

Qualifications

Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 10+ years of hands-on software engineering, with proficiency in microservices, cloud-native architectures, containerization, and AI platforms. Candidates must have strong technical backgrounds and leadership qualities. Experience with technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, DevOps, and Public Cloud (Google Cloud) is essential. Exposure to GenAI platforms and multi-threading concepts is crucial.

Additional Information

This role is a hybrid position with up to four days onsite at a Ford hub in Dearborn, MI, though remote candidates are considered if not local. Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates.
