Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Actionable Intelligence Team. This role focuses on developing product experiences that empower customers to understand fleet operations and make informed, next-best actions. The Actionable Intelligence Team is dedicated to building the next generation of intelligent, customer-facing workflows within Fleetio. Our current project involves Service Advisor, and we are continuously exploring new AI tools to surface insights, reduce manual tasks, and enable customers to make quicker, more confident decisions directly within the product.This is a senior, full-stack position ideal for a skilled Ruby on Rails engineer with a strong passion for front-end best practices, user experience, and modern React development. You will be instrumental in building AI-enabled features that are not only technically robust but also user-friendly, reliable, measurable, and highly valuable to our customers.
The ideal candidate thrives in environments that move from ambiguous product ideas to rapid prototyping and then solidifies successful experiments into dependable product capabilities. Fleetio's AI engineering standards emphasize transforming unclear AI opportunities into well-defined experiments, balancing user benefit with technical viability, and establishing feedback loops through customer input, usage data, evaluations, and quality assessments.
Your Impact
- Design, build, and iterate on AI-powered product experiences across Fleetio’s Rails and React application.
- Collaborate closely with Product, Design, Data, Customer Success, and other engineers to identify customer problems where AI can significantly enhance workflows.
- Create high-quality front-end experiences using Fleetio’s current stack (React, TypeScript, Vite, Storybook, Tailwind) and component patterns, prioritizing accessibility, usability, maintainability, and performance.
- Work across the full stack, including Rails APIs, database-driven product workflows, AI integration points, prompt engineering, evaluation frameworks, observability, and customer-facing UI.
- Prototype rapidly, learn from experiments, and contribute to team decisions on iterating, hardening, or discarding approaches.
- Conduct code and design reviews with a keen eye for user experience, front-end quality, correctness, readability, performance, security, and long-term maintainability.
- Mentor fellow engineers in React, TypeScript, Rails, AI tooling, experimentation, and pragmatic product engineering practices.
Your Experience
- 5+ years of experience with Ruby on Rails
- 5+ years of experience with ReactJS and TypeScript
- High comfort level with HTML & CSS, with the ability to create dynamic UX workflows and custom-designed UI components.
- Strong understanding of object-oriented programming and relational databases, such as PostgreSQL.
- Demonstrated strong product instincts and a focus on features that deliver clear, measurable customer outcomes.
Nice to Have
- Experience building AI-powered product features using LLM APIs, prompt engineering, tool/function calling, retrieval, evaluations, or human-in-the-loop workflows.
- Experience with observability, feature flags, gradual rollouts, A/B tests, or product experimentation.
- Project experience with TailwindCSS.
