About the Insurance Appeals Specialist Role
Fisher Phillips, a premier international labor and employment law firm, is seeking an Insurance Appeals Specialist to join our Legal Project Management Team or Billing and Collections Team. This full-time role is fully remote and focuses on managing, researching, interpreting, and drafting timely, Billing Guideline-compliant responses to deductions taken by insurance companies on defense counsel invoices.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee EPLI Appeals and review defense counsel bills
- Develop a deep understanding of insurance Defense Counsel Billing Guidelines
- Research, analyze, and draft persuasive responses to deductions
- Collaborate with attorneys, timekeepers, and billing teams
- Implement strategies to improve submissions and report performance metrics
- Partner with various departments to introduce tech solutions
Operational Strategy & Reporting
Work with leadership to establish performance goals, track appeals outcomes, and report on financial performance and staffing requirements.
Interdepartmental Collaboration
Collaborate with Legal Project Management, Knowledge Management, Billing and Collections, and IT to improve outcomes through technology and process innovation.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Deep knowledge of defense counsel activities and legal terminology
- Vast understanding of insurance Defense Counsel Billing Guidelines
- Familiarity with legal billing software and eBilling vendors
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to manage confidential matters professionally
- Highly organized with excellent multitasking ability
- Capacity to delegate and manage resources effectively
Education, Experience & Certification
Bachelor’s degree required; JD strongly preferred. Must have 5+ years of relevant experience in legal bill review or insurance defense work, ideally at a large law firm or major insurance company.
Compensation & Benefits
The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $120,000, based on experience and expertise. Comprehensive benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) with profit sharing, paid time off, telehealth services, and more.
