Position Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Revenue Cycle Management, the Central Billing Representative I is responsible for maintaining a high performance work environment with positive relationships and quality patient billing. This role provides direct support to Site Biller Representatives, patients, physicians, colleagues, contractors, and consultants in billing, collection, and reporting for multi-specialty accounts receivable and claims.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Review batched patient encounters for charge and payment accuracy.
- Monitor and review unbilled encounters to meet deadlines.
- Educate on encounter batches to minimize errors.
- Complete end-of-month closing activities and reporting.
- Coordinate monthly electronic patient statements and post payments.
- Manage NSF checks, credit balances and refund requests.
- Provide billing Helpdesk customer support and document inquiries.
- Follow up on outstanding A/R with various insurance payers.
- Edit and resubmit claims ensuring proper reimbursement.
- Communicate payment terms and set up payment plans.
- Recommend account write-offs and manage bad debt processes.
- Document all billing activities; assist and train other staff.
Minimum Education and Experience
High school degree or GED required. One to three years of data entry, billing and claims experience in a healthcare setting or via a billing externship is required. Experience in a multispecialty clinic setting is preferred.
Preferred Licenses/Certifications
Certified Coder (medical and/or dental) or Billing Certificate is preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of CPT, Dental Coding, and ICD-10 is also valued.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficient in computerized practice management systems (Cerner, Dentrix).
- Ability to quickly learn billing and collection systems.
- Strong communication, both oral and written.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Familiarity with HIPAA guidelines and healthcare billing compliance.
Working Conditions
This office-based role requires travel throughout the Albuquerque metropolitan area. Regular Monday-Friday schedule with occasional weekends and evenings.
