About The Role: Data Science Intern

We are seeking a motivated and talented Data & AI Intern to join our team for a duration of 4-6 months. This role offers a unique opportunity to be part of Lidl's innovative Data & AI department, supporting data-driven analyses and developing cutting-edge automation solutions. As a vital member of our team, you will gain practical experience working with Big Data and Machine Learning technologies, contributing to projects that influence strategic decision-making across various departments. Your responsibilities will include data collection, preparation, and exploratory analysis, as well as developing, validating, and piloting AI and statistical solutions for automated decision-making processes. Additionally, you will participate in strategic discussions related to data and AI topics through presentations and workshops, helping shape Lidl’s digital future. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about data science, eager to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world setting, and interested in contributing to a global retail leader’s technological advancement.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is currently pursuing an advanced degree in Statistics, (Business) Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Economics, Psychology, Social Sciences, or a related field. You should possess foundational knowledge in statistics and machine learning, along with initial exposure to Big Data technologies and relevant tools such as scikit-learn, Spark, or Hive. Experience with programming languages like Python, R, or Scala, coupled with basic software development skills, is essential. Familiarity with databases and SQL is also desirable. We value proactive learners who are eager to expand their technical expertise and contribute to innovative projects within a collaborative team environment. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a keen interest in data-driven solutions are crucial for success in this role.

Responsibilities

• Gaining insights into Big Data and Machine Learning technologies, understanding their application within the retail sector.
• Participating in data collection, data cleaning, and exploratory data analysis to uncover meaningful patterns and trends.
• Developing, validating, and piloting AI and statistical models to support automated decision-making processes in various business units.
• Contributing to the strategic development of data and AI initiatives by preparing presentations and participating in workshops.
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to implement innovative automation solutions and improve existing processes.
• Supporting ongoing projects by applying your technical skills and providing insights to help refine data-driven strategies.
