The Clinical Risk Management Analyst at St. Joseph's Health plays a vital role in ensuring patient safety and minimizing clinical risks across our healthcare facilities. This full-time, day shift position is integral to our risk management and quality improvement initiatives. The analyst is responsible for reviewing and responding to reported events, investigating incidents, and coordinating efforts to prevent future occurrences. The role involves responding to crisis situations that impact patient safety, providing problem-solving support to clinical staff, and promoting a culture of safety and continuous improvement. This position does not offer remote work; it requires physical presence in our office and clinical settings, ensuring active engagement with staff, patients, and regulatory bodies.Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in nursing, healthcare administration, or a related field, with a Master's degree preferred. Certification as a Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) is highly desirable, along with experience in a healthcare setting, ideally 3-5 years in risk management or patient safety. Registered Nurses are preferred candidates. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, along with interpersonal, motivational, and conflict resolution abilities. Candidates should demonstrate excellent management and administrative capabilities, a broad understanding of hospital regulatory compliance, and proficiency in data analysis and presentation. Familiarity with healthcare risk assessment tools and experience in conducting root cause analyses are advantageous. The candidate must be adaptable, detail-oriented, and capable of influencing change without direct authority.Responsibilities
The Clinical Risk Management Analyst will oversee the organization’s risk mitigation activities, including data management, incident investigation, and reporting. They will conduct daily reviews of reported events, coordinate investigations, and facilitate root cause analyses to identify underlying issues. The analyst will ensure compliance with federal and state reporting requirements, including NYPORTS, NIMRS, and CMS death reporting, collaborating with regulatory agencies such as the NYS Department of Health and the FDA. They will develop and implement facility-wide risk reduction strategies, organize educational programs for healthcare practitioners, and promote a safety-first culture. Additional responsibilities include performing risk surveys, inspecting patient care areas, and working closely with leadership to develop risk mitigation plans related to litigated claims. The analyst will serve as a resource for staff, providing guidance on event review, causal analysis, and loss prevention activities. They will utilize various risk assessment tools, such as failure mode and effect analysis, to identify potential hazards and implement corrective measures. The role also involves preparing reports, analyzing data trends, and presenting findings to management to support continuous quality improvement initiatives.Key skills/competency
