Our organization emphasizes innovation, safety, and continuous improvement to meet the evolving needs of our patients and staff. With a focus on collaborative teamwork and community engagement, St. Joseph's Health strives to be a leader in healthcare excellence and patient safety.

About The Role

The Clinical Risk Management Analyst at St. Joseph's Health plays a vital role in ensuring patient safety and minimizing clinical risks within our healthcare facility. This full-time, day shift position involves overseeing the organization’s risk management functions, including the review and response to reported events, incident investigations, and compliance with regulatory requirements. The analyst will respond to crisis situations that impact patient safety, support staff with problem-solving, and promote a culture of safety and continuous learning. This role requires a proactive approach to risk identification, data analysis, and collaboration across departments to develop effective mitigation strategies.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in healthcare risk management or patient safety, with a strong understanding of hospital operations and regulatory compliance. A Bachelor’s degree in nursing, healthcare administration, or a related field is required, with a Master’s degree preferred. Certification such as CPHRM is advantageous, and registered nurses are highly encouraged to apply. The candidate should demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, along with strong interpersonal, motivational, and conflict resolution abilities. Knowledge of hospital safety protocols, risk assessment tools, and regulatory standards is essential. Additionally, proficiency in data analysis, presentation skills, and the ability to influence change without direct authority are highly valued.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily reviews of reported events, verbal reports, electronic submissions, and other sources to identify potential risks and initiate appropriate follow-up actions.
  • Respond promptly to crisis situations with patient safety and risk management implications, providing guidance and support to staff members.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies such as the NYS Department of Health, FDA, CMS, and others to ensure compliance with reporting requirements like NYPORTS, NIMRS, and Justice Center protocols.
  • Lead investigations into adverse events utilizing root cause analysis, failure mode and effect analysis, and other risk assessment tools.
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies, including facility-wide educational programs and safety initiatives.
  • Maintain a network of informational sources and subject matter experts to stay current on healthcare risk management practices.
  • Perform facility inspections, risk surveys, and assessments to identify potential loss areas and develop corrective actions.
  • Support the organization’s patient safety initiatives by promoting a culture of safety, transparency, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage data collection, analysis, and reporting related to risk management activities, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Collaborate with leadership and clinical staff to develop and review policies and procedures aimed at reducing clinical risks and enhancing patient safety.
  • Participate in educational sessions, workshops, and seminars to promote awareness and understanding of risk management principles among healthcare practitioners.
  • Other duties as assigned, including event review, causal analysis, and loss prevention activities to support organizational safety goals.
